The Type 51, was a new more powerful twin-cam design
to replace the 2.3-liter Type 35B and was introduced
early in 1931.

The type 51 was raced for the first time by Achille Varzi
at the 1931 Tunis GP where the car won its first race.

Bugatti were officially absent for this race so works
driver Varzis’ car was in Italian Red!

In Bugatti Blue a T51 driven by Varzi was the victor in
the tremendous 100 lap battle with Nuvolari in his Alfa
Romeo ‘Monza’  (
SHX3007) to take the 1933 Monaco
